What are Energy Assessments

A Domestic Energy Assessment provides you with an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) as the final product that results from an inspection from Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) and will have an A to G rating as shown on a typical graphic display below.

Energy Performance Certificates tell you how energy efficient your home is on a scale of A-G. The most efficient homes - which should have the lowest fuel bills - are in band A.

The Certificate also tells you, on a scale of A-G, about the impact you home has on the environment. Better rated homes should have less impact through carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

The average property in the UK is in bands D-E for both ratings. The Certificate includes recommendations on ways to improve the home's energy efficiency to save you money and help the environment.

Energy Performance Certificates and your home

An Energy Performance Certificate is also part of a Home Information Pack (HIP). The certificates are commissioned by the seller (or their agent) from a Domestic Energy Assessor. We can arrange to visit the property to collect the relevant data and create the certificate. This data includes the date, construction and location of the house and relevant fittings (heating systems, insulation or double glazing, for example).

An EPC will provide you with the following information:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Heating costs
  • Carbon emissions of the property

You can the use the EPC as evidence of energy performance when you house is put up for sale or you can improve its energy efficiency and reduce your energy usage by implementing the recommendations.
